The MA in Military History is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time modular programme, which is designed to:
- offer interested and suitably qualified students the opportunity to explore and critically
examine various aspects of military history
- contribute to the wider academic debate on issues pertaining to the military's interaction
with wider society
- allow graduate students the opportunity to develop an independent, extended piece of
research into some aspect of the military, which goes beyond a descriptive narrative of a
particular conflict
- prepare students with appropriate interests for further postgraduate research at the
Master/Doctor of Philosophy level and beyond.
The programme is taught by an experienced team of tutors who have specialist research interests and publications within this field. Teaching is flexible but is based upon lectures, seminars, workshops and individual tutorials, which are normally held on one evening per week. In addition, some modules will have occasional weekend field visits to relevant sites at home or abroad.
