The University of Applied Sciences Wildau has, for several years, been offering German-language undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Telematics.
Currently, these programmes are the only full-time study programmes in Germany of this relatively new scientific discipline and there are only a very few comparable programmes worldwide.
Both programmes, Bachelor and Master, have been accredited by the international agency ASIIN.
Our goal is to train qualified personnel and educate managers in new fields of activity within the domain of telematic applications. We aim to qualify motivated researchers for these fast-paced fields of technology and to encourage our graduates to float start-ups. In addition to our training expert knowledge (by means of highly specialised modules) and advancing ‘hands-on’ skills (through practical projects), we also put great emphasis on developing leadership and management abilities.
The digital revolution, the resounding success of the internet, world wide web and modern communication technologies have led to new forms of labour division in economic, social and ecological processes. On the one hand, this development has opened up the market for new business opportunities in communications, information (IT) and electronics. On the other hand, there are new challenges in almost every economic field that can only be dealt with by means of ICT, and in particular telecommunications.
As a result, there is an increasing demand for experts – a new type of engineer, who combines technical and professional know-how in ICT, economics and law with social and managerial skills.
This trend was recognised at an early stage by the University of Applied Sciences Wildau. In response to this, the university has, for several years, been offering German-language undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in telematics (Telematik at the UAS, www.tm.tfh-wildau.de).
