Legal and Criminological Psychology
Programm
The MSc in Legal and Criminological Psychology is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time modular programme, which is designed to:
- develop knowledge of applied psychology within the forensic context. Specifically, the
programme will facilitate psychological perspectives on the areas of criminal behaviour;
criminal justice; therapeutic contexts; offender profiling; professional and research
practice.
- develop cognitive skillsthrough analytical reasoning, critical evaluation and generation of
advanced psychological constructs and materials.
- demonstrate subject specific skills through development of core professional, ethical and
research skills in line with the British Psychological Society generic and Division of
Forensic Psychology specific National Occupational Standards and Benchmark criteria (as
they are developed) and by making an appropriate contribution to research within an area
of legal and criminological psychology.
- demonstrate transferable skills gained through use of a variety of research techniques and
statistical methods appropriate to postgraduate training in the social sciences, in general,
and psychology in particular. These include those utilised and demonstrated during the
development of practical research, working in groups and individually.
