What will I study?
The course has been designed to provide knowledge and understanding of the available analytical tools and statistical principles required for logistics optimisation in both service and manufacturing operations. You will study:
Integrated manufacturing systems
Operations and quality management
Principles of operational research
Project formulation
Research methods
Project management
Transportation
Transhipment
Assignment theory

You will also choose an optional unit from:
Scheduling in operational research
Information technology and management
Applied statistics for design and production

A strong feature of the course is the individual project, which comprises a third of the course. We encourage students to undertake projects in companies but we can also use our extensive resources and staff skills to undertake projects within the University.
The course aims to:
Provide an understanding of manufacturing logistics and the underlying principles of lean manufacture
Provide a broad appreciation of the available analytical tools and statistical principles for logistics optimisation in both service and manufacturing operations
Develop intellectual, analytical and problem-solving skills that will help develop professional and interpersonal abilities
The course attracts a large and growing number of international students who have found the qualification to be of considerable value in the development of their careers. We have a good research record and extensive links with industry through knowledge exchange schemes and consultancy. We have also recently benefited from large research grants from the UK Government.
