Schwerpunkte / Curriculum - M.Sc. in Computer Science

The MSc in Computer Science curriculum provides breadth and depth of knowledge in key areas of computer science, combined with a general education component, which includes relevant subjects of mathematics, basic knowledge of business administration, as well as liberal arts.

The modules in the area of informatics are grouped in the following categories: IT Application modules, and IT Specialization modules, and thesis. The specialization modules offer courses in the research areas of the School of IT, namely intelligent interaction and communication. IT Applications modules allow the students to become familiar with various practical IT technologies and applications (e.g., .NET, SAP). The Master's thesis require students to integrate their knowledge to tackle challenging research questions. The total number of credits required for graduation is 90 ECTS credits. Optionally Students can carry out a company internship, which adds 20 credits (110 credits total).

The distribution of the student workload is as follows:

IT:

- Application: 3 credits (required electives)

- Specialization: 33 credits (24 required, 9 required electives)

- Electives: 9 credits (from IT or Business Administration modules)

- Thesis: 30 credits

- Internship (optional): 20 credits (IT project)

Business Administration: 3 credits (required)

Mathematics: 6 credits (required)

Liberal arts: 6 credits

The first three trimesters are course-based study. In trimesters three and four, students work on their thesis. An optional company internship may be carried out in trimester five.

Students are strongly encouraged to take language courses (German for non-German speakers; others such as French, Spanish, Chinese for German-speaking students).
