Programme Structure
The four core modules for the programme are:
- Foundations of Health Promotion
- Health Promotion in a Public Health Context
- Ethics
- Research
Students also choose two modules, either from programmes within the School, or from programmes in the wider University. The programme attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds, which provides an ideal inter-disciplinary/multi-agency learning environment. In order to meet their specific health promotion needs, a range of modules will be offered, which will allow students to follow their professional or academic interests.
Examples of these modules include:
- Drugs and Society
- HIV/AIDS
- Understanding Difference in Society
- Practising Health Promotion
- Context and Principles of Teaching and Learning
- Teenage Sexual Health
Modules are either delivered over fifteen weeks or in a more condensed format over one week. This makes the course suitable for overseas students who are able to fund visits to the UK for two-four weeks per year.
Students are encouraged to assume responsibility for their own learning as well as for the utilisation of learning resources available to them. Varied teaching and learning strategies are employed in meeting programme objectives. There is some didactic teaching, but emphasis is placed on group work, discussion, seminar presentations, project work and case discussions.
