Programme Structure
Taught Modular Programme
Each taught module consists of a three-day intensive course, followed by a period of home-based learning, resulting in the submission of a written assignment, or its equivalent. There are no formal examinations.
The taught modular programme includes:
- Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology (core module)
- Primary and Secondary CHD Risk Factors (core module)
- Cardiovascular Diseases and Treatments (core module)
- Nutrition
- Psychology of Behaviour Modification
- Health Promotion
- Programme Planning and Management
- CHD and Public Health Policy (including outcomes/audit)
- Exercise Testing and Prescription
- Research Methods (core module for MSc students)
- Data Analysis (core module for MSc students)
- Exercise Leadership
Each taught module is assessed by a 3-4,000 word written assignment or its equivalent - e.g. poster presentation. There are no formal examinations.
Masters Dissertation
Following the completion of the taught modules, MSc students are required to undertake a programme of personal research leading to the submission of a Masters Dissertation. Projects may be laboratory-based at the University, or work-based, and students are under the direction of an individually allocated supervisor.
