INSEAD's first Advisory Boards were set up in 1974 to provide essential links between the Institute and the national business communities in key European countries. The International Council was created in 1983 to extend and reinforce these links worldwide. In 1992, building on the complementarity and synergy between the International Council and the National Advisory Boards, the Council and the Boards became a single entity, the International Council. This format satisfies INSEAD's dual need
